The First International Conference on Hyperphagia
Best Idea Grant
BIG qualification and review parameters
- One of the Principal Investigator’s must have attended The
First International Conference on Hyperphagia in Baltimore on
June 4th and 5th and participated in the roundtable discussions.
- Practical, solution driven ideas will be favored.
- Factors for consideration include; science, economics,
research team, and time frame.
- Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA) [PWSA (USA)] has
committed a total of $100,000 from its Research fund. The
funding will be made available in segments over 1-2 years.
- Projects are particularly welcome that cut across disorders
and disciplines, and have future potential to benefit the
treatment of hyperphagia in uncommon disorders and overeating in
obesity amongst the general population.
Grant Administration
- PWSA (USA) is the granting organization, controls the
process, and has ultimate award authority.
- The review and approval process will generally follow the
typical PWSA (USA) process with the exception that the timeline
for review and granting are as outlined below and additional
experts may be participating in the review process.
The timeframe is:
- Hyperphagia Conference June 4, 5
- Letter of Intent (LOI) submission August 1
- Response to LOI by PWSA (USA) September 1
- Full PWSA (USA) 5 page grant submission November 1
- Grant decision by PWSA (USA) December 1
Letter of Intent
To begin the grant process, researchers seeking funds are asked
to submit a 1-3 page LOI summarizing the proposed project. Based on
the LOI, PWSA (USA) will prioritize the projects and invite full
grant applications from those most meritorious.
LOI should contain a summary of at least the following items:
- Principal Investigators contact information and email
addresses
- Brief overview of proposed research design
- Project goals and intent
- Expected significance of the project for the PWS and/or
hyperphagia community
- Primary investigators (please attach NIH style biosketch no
more than 3-4 pages)
- Investigators experience with PWS and/or obesity related
disorders
- Timing of the project
- Estimated cost
